Full-Time (10 Months) | 11th & 12th Grade College Counseling
 
Position Overview
Bishop Eustace Preparatory School is seeking a College Counselor to join our School and College Counseling team. The counselor will primarily work with 11th- and 12th-grade students and their families, guiding them through the college search, application, financial aid, and enrollment process.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced college admissions professional who is passionate about transitioning to the high school side or an early-career college counselor looking to grow within a collaborative, student-centered counseling environment.

The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of the higher education admissions landscape and demonstrate exceptional communication, organization, relationship-building, and counseling skills.

We are looking for a counselor who understands that college counseling is about much more than completing an application. The ideal candidate will be a trusted advisor, advocate, educator, and mentor who genuinely enjoys getting to know students and families.

Our counselor should bring warmth, energy, professionalism, empathy, sound judgment, and a sense of humor to the work. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who believes that there is a right college or post-secondary pathway for every student and is committed to helping students discover the opportunities that will allow them to thrive.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Counsel a caseload of primarily 11th- and 12th-grade students throughout the college search and application process. 
  • Develop individualized college lists based on each student's academic profile, interests, goals, personality, and institutional fit. 
  • Guide students through all aspects of the college application process, including applications, essays, recommendations, interviews, deadlines, and admissions strategies. 
  • Counsel students and families regarding standardized testing, financial aid, scholarships, merit opportunities, and college affordability. 
  • Write individualized and thoughtful letters of recommendation and other supporting materials. 
  • Facilitate college counseling lessons and programming through the school's College Seminar program. 
  • Plan and present workshops and educational programs for students and parents. 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with college and university admissions representatives. 
  • Coordinate college representative visits, college fairs, information sessions, and other college-related programming. 
  • Stay current on changing admissions policies, enrollment trends, testing requirements, financial aid regulations, and scholarship opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, coaches, learning specialists, and other members of the school community to advocate for and support students. 
  • Maintain accurate student records and utilize Naviance, Common Application, and other college counseling technologies. 
  • Assist with standardized testing administration and related school-wide testing initiatives. 
  • Participate in professional development and relevant professional organizations. 
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and advancement of the School and College Counseling program. 
Qualifications
Required:
  • Master's degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, School Counseling, College Counseling, or a related field. 
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in college admissions, college counseling, enrollment management, or a related field. 
  • Strong knowledge of the college admissions process and current higher education landscape. 
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to manage multiple students, deadlines, and priorities effectively. 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish meaningful relationships with students and families. 
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively within a school community. 
  • Experience with Naviance and/or other college counseling and application platforms preferred. 
  • Knowledge of standardized testing, financial aid, scholarships, and current admissions trends. 
Preferred:
  • Previous experience working in undergraduate admissions or enrollment management. 
  • Experience counseling students in a secondary school setting. 
  • Membership in NACAC or another professional college counseling organization. 
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and a wide range of academic and post-secondary goals. 
  • Familiarity with independent or college-preparatory school environments. 
Salary Range: 55,000 to 62,200
