So many books…so little time! The Student Library Assn. hosted the B.E. Bookfair at Barnes & Noble, Marlton, on Saturday, Feb. 21. Members of WOW! (Wizards of Wonder) and the SLA entertained children with a magic show and a story hour, while B.E. music students wowed everyone in the store with their terrific talent. B.E. teacher, Chris Threston, signed copies of his book, The Integration of Baseball in Philadelphia, as did B.E. Mom, Maureen McLoone (Merchantville), and B.E. alum, Tom Wilk (Tales of South Jersey and New Jersey Firsts). Six lucky friends of B.E. won B&N gift certificates and teachers were treated to free beverages in the café. A percentage of sales during the day were donated to Bishop Eustace Prep. Thanks to everyone, including all B.E. parents who attended, for helping to make the occasion a success. (Article: Nancy Croce / Photos: Nancy Croce & Kate Terrado)

Eustace held its Winter Convocation on February 11, 2004 in the Field House. The Convocation started with a prayer service planned and presented by our Multicultural Awareness Club. Led by senior Todd Johnson, the prayer service centered on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his work. Themes addressed included diversity, acceptance, freedom, acceptance, cooperation, peace and justice. The Service concluded with the following prayer we read as a community.

Dearest God of Peace, You create all people with dignity and You bless us with diversity and differences. Please hear our prayer today as we made this act of contrition. It is far too easy sometimes to remain silent or uninvolved. Even when confronted with injustice or inequality, we are too often content to say or do nothing. In failing to speak or act, we are indirectly endorsing the unjust behavior and attitudes of our peers. Give us strength, Lord. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “In the end, we will not remember the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” Teach us not to simply be tolerant of others, but to be appreciative and respectful of where they are coming from. Help us live out the dream of Dr. King, and carry on his legacy by building Your Kingdom. Now is the time. Grant us the confidence and courage to take a stand and to make a difference one day at a time. With Your Spirit living in us, we can shape the ultimate dream of equality, justice and peace. We make this prayer in the name Jesus, our brother.

Following the Prayer service, we recognized 201 of our students who earned Principal’s List honors for the first semester. These students had grade point averages of 3.75 or higher.

In addition, we recognized seniors Lauren Boswell, Michael Hall, Jack Hanson, Meghan Lennon, Maria Lipperini, Lindsay Morgan, Julia Murphy, Elizabeth Potts, Melissa Rodis, Rebecca Ross, Peter Tjoa and Andrew Wolf as this year’s Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars. They placed in the top 10% of the class and had a minimum combined SAT score of 1260.

We finished the assembly by recognizing seniors Lauren Boswell and Jack Hanson who are National Merit Finalists.
