Ms.
Mechikas rolls up her sleeves to save a life ! The Spring blood drive,
sponsored and organized by the Bishop Eustace Preparatory School chapter
of the National Honor Society, saw over 100 members of the student body,
faculty and staff donate blood. The donated blood will be used locally or
could be sent to help troops overseas or victims of the recent storms in
the South and Midwest. 60 members of the NHS volunteered to work in
registration, serve as aids in the donor area, or as refreshment servers
in the canteen. Thanks go to Ms. Clemens and Ms. Santomauro for organizing
the event. If you missed this opportunity or wish to make an appointment
to give blood you can contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-GIVELIFE.

members and then watched a magic show performed by B.E.’s Wizards of
Wonder (WOW). Refreshments followed. As story hour ended, the children
received Easter coloring books and crayons to take home with them. The SLA

Christopher
Threston, a social studies teacher at Bishop Eustace, was the guest of honor
at a book signing sponsored by the Student Library Association on Tuesday.
The Integration of Baseball in Philadelphia, recently
published by McFarland & Co., Inc., grew out of Mr. Threston’s master’s
thesis at Rutgers University. Mr. Threston’s work, "examines how
Philadelphia acquired a reputation as a tough place for African American
players…and follows the very slow and difficult progress on integration of
the Philadelphia Phillies and Athletics." Many teachers and students stopped
by to congratulate Mr. Threston and to purchase his book, which is also
being featured at the school bookfair at Barnes & Noble, Rt. 70, Marlton,
Sunday, March 30 from 12-5 p.m. Mr. Threston will be there from 3-4 p.m.(article: Nancy Croce / photos: Ben King) |
