H1N1 Update
Both the regular seasonal flu vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine are recommended by the Health Department but neither is required at the high school level. Students are encouraged to follow the recommendations of their primary care physicians, especially if underlying health conditions need to be considered.
As of October 23, 2009, we have multiple cases of students out with diagnosed H1N1 (Swine Flu), with undiagnosed flu symptoms, and with an upper respiratory infection that includes a deep cough lasting weeks. Absenteeism has topped 100 students. Vaccines will not be available for weeks and then need time to take effect. In the meantime, please keep sick children at home. Do not have them try to “get through as much of the day as they can”. Sick children are susceptible to other illnesses and we have plenty of them going around. Parents are reminded NOT to send students who have been out with flu symptoms back to school until they have been fever free WITHOUT Tylenol or Advil type medications for at least 24 hours. Also, please be sure your children can reach you if they become ill at school, and you have a plan for getting them home. Students are not permitted to drive home from school if they become ill. Someone will need to come to school to pick them up.
